Department for Transport to Introduce Fixed Penalties for Historic Offences

The Department for Transport (DfT) held a consultation regarding fixed penalties for historic offences. Following the consultation, it has decided to allow traffic officers to issue fixed penalties for infringements in the past 28 days.

Following the meeting, it has been decided that the power could only be used by Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) enforcement officers. The new powers will allow the DVSA to take effective enforcement action against non-GB operators where currently it has none.
It is expected that these powers will come into play around October time.
